Camera Test

You know, my camera is heavy. I have always just dealt with that fact regardless of weather we were at a family event or vacation, believing that the quality of image that I wanted was worth the inconvenience of lugging around a heavy camera.

Recently tho I had been thinking about the quality the newer 'point and shoot' consumer cameras claim to possess and I decided to leave the heavy beast behind and get one of those little cameras for personal use. After doing some shopping I bought a Olympus 8 mega pixel camera with a built in telephoto feature. Nice little camera, wonderfully PINK, and light as a feather. The cost was right around $250.

I was impressed. When we went to our annual 'Simmons Family Camp out' i intentionally left 'the beast' at home and took only my little pink camera along. My niece had her Canon 20d along with the exact same 'normal' usage lens that I use in the studio but I insisted that she not worry, my little camera would do an equally fine job when it came time to photograph the group and proceeded to do just that with my little Olympus. Both cameras are 8 mega pixel.

Well, I was very disappointed in the results. I photographed a larger group of people at a wedding reception with my trusty Canon 20d and 28-70 mm IS L series lens with the 550 Canon flash. I even underexposed one drastically just for a comparison, and it far outweighed the quality of the lovely pink camera.

Here are some samples. The first ones are full frame and the second ones are cropped in for detail.

Heidi Ho fundraiser

The ladies at Heidi Ho have really out done themselves this year. We had 33 families participating in the portrait fundraiser at Bingaman's Pond. The weather was drizzly, with the worst of it being on Saturday afternoon, but the drizzle made the colors so intensely saturated that no one seemed to mind!

Feeding the geese and ducks, walking the paths, examing the leaves, these are just a few from a spectatular three days of portraits.

Jason and Rhadean Hays and their girls, Brianne and Noell:

The Smith Children:

And the Loftlan family:

A big THANK YOU to all who participated!

Last week in LaGrande.

Obviously blogging has been difficult for me! I lost the entire blog twice and my poor webmaster has been so incredibly patient with me! Thank you Jeff.

Last week we spent several days with our LaGrande clients, Heidi Ho's fundraiser was very successful with 33 familes participating. The drizzly rain did not stop us and made for great portraits with the color saturation being way up because of the dampness.

This is the Hays Family, They are wonderful people, Jason works on the police force and Rhadean works in child development. The first time I photographed Noell, the youngest, she was two, my how time flies!

Vacation was Awesome!

This is a image I played with from our vacation early in August, It is my neice, with one of our nephew's, her sisters boy. I love the Oregon Coast and we had a wonderful time visiting my brother's family!

Here is one I did of my son Brent! Taken with a little point and shoot camera we use for fun.

We spent two nights at Fort Stephens State Park and then three in Newport. Went fishing, visited lighthouses, and walked the beach. We found a great little place to eat just south of the bridge at Newport called the South Beach Fish Market. Boy did they ever have some great halibut and chips!
